Two Different Approaches to the Retelling of Traditional Tales Among Non-Storytellers in a North Italian Village

During my fieldwork in Frassinoro, a small village in the Apennines in the North of Italy, I was lucky enough to meet people who could provide invaluable insights into their own narrative tradition. By means of direct quotations from the interviewees' comments, this paper aims to give voice to these spontaneous meta-commentaries, in particular to those dealing with attitudes towards the uses and functions of traditional narrative.
